Have you ever seen an industry pounded like plastic in 2019 and now 2020?  Anything pertaining to plastic is perceived to be the scourge of society, the reason for all of the Earth’s problems.  Everyone from governments to celebrities have jumped on the bandwagon to condemn any and all associated with plastic while demanding alternatives.  While that sounds good, there continues to be a large gap between alternatives and what plastic can do from a **protection, containment, and even merchandising standpoint.  **

While ***there have been*** advancements in ![2020 Flexible Packaging Report](https://info.standuppouches.net/hs-fs/hubfs/Capture-2.jpg?width=194&name=Capture-2.jpg)materials that can biodegrade over time (in select environments) along with coatings and substrates that have shown signs of promise, there is nothing (yet) that protects the contents, provides ample space for printing and brand building, along with consumer conveniences that retailers and customers want.

We are all for the environment...we just aren't there yet with consistency and barrier protection.
